Historic Note: As we did our research to learn about the background and construction of the Richmond Depot Brogan so we could properly reproduce this shoe we found the history of the Richmond Shoe Manufactory and Quartermaster Captain Stephen Putney rather interesting.

When we can it has been our habit to share this type of interesting historical information with our customers.

British Import Blucher.  A commercial copy  of the English military shoe made for export.  Features two brass eyelets, herringbone  twill  pull loops,  black waxed-flesh uppers and sewn soles.

CS-4 Confederate Bootee with five brass eyelets
CS-4

This is a manufactured bootee with known Confederate usage.  Black waxed-flesh leather uppers, sewn soles and nailed heels.  Could have been  domestically made or imported. This shoe features five brass eyelets  and sewn soles.  The style is very eye catching and would work well for a civilian impression as well.

CS-5 Round-Toed Confederate Shoe
CS-5

Round-toed Confederate shoe. Black waxed-flesh uppers, sewn soles and nailed heels.  Quarters are welt-seamed in the rear and the vamps sewn over the quarters with two rows of stitching.

CS-6 The Richmond Depot Shoe
The originals were made in Richmond, Virginia at the shoe factory ran by Captain Stephen Putney. 
These shoes were definitely produced or procured for the Confederate army.  Black smooth-out uppers with two eyelets in the quarters and a pair in the tongue. Pegged soles and nailed heels.

Historic Note: The original pair of these CS-6 stye shoes were among many made at the Confederate Shoe Factory in Richmond, Virginia that was ran by Captain Stephen Putney.

CS-7 Confederate Shoe documented to the Army of Northern, VA 1862
CS-7

Documented to the Army of Northern Va. 1862.  Poorly designed shoe with the seam turned to the interior making a ridge against the foot. Originals had no tongue.  Waxed-flesh uppers sewn soles and nailed heels.

CS-8 Canvas Shoes with leather reinforcements of eyelets and toe cap.
CS-8

Confederate shoes made from two layers of canvas with leather reinforcements along the top edge where the four eyelets are located and a leather toe cap. A stiffener is sewn inside the shoe to help retain their shape and style just as the original canvas shoes did. The soles are pegged. Research shows they were issued as early as the winter of 1862.
