Western Contractor J. B. Sickles of St. Louis produced Pattern 1861 Cartridge Boxes producing at least 10,000 sets of infantry accoutrements during the Civil War.
Our reproduction Sickles cartridge box is copied from an original that featured extensive use of waxed flesh leather in the latch tab, tool pouch, as well as waist and shoulder belt loops. The use of waxed flesh leather is indicative of the leather shortages create by war-time demand. The original box we copied was believed to have been issued to a Kansas soldier. Our box has the correct hardware and is made of top grade leather. They come with the cartridge box tins at no extra charge.
