E. A. Corbet Pattern 1861 .58 caliber Rifle Musket Cartridge Box & Cap Box Combo
The Pattern 1861 .58 caliber Rifled Musket Cartridge Boxes made by E. A. Corbet were a wartime contract box with riveted waist belt loops. It was also designed to be used with a Cartridge Box Shoulder Belt. The Cartridge Box has a tool pouch on the front to hold a cleaning kit and removable tins to hold and protect the black powder and paper cartridges used in the rifled muskets.
The E. A. Corbet Cap Box is an Allegheny Arsenal style Cap Box with the closing tab sewn on to the front flap then fastens over a brass finial to keep the Cap Box closed. The Cap Box is lined with 100% natural lambs wool to help keep the percussion caps inside. Each box also has a standard issue cone pick inside which was used for removing debris stuck inside the percussion nipple on the gun.
