The Head & Boon Pattern 1861 .58 caliber Rifled Musket Cartridge Box & Cap Box Combo
The Cartridge Boxes made by Head & Boon were wartime contract boxes with riveted waist belt loops. The Cartridge Box was also designed to be used with a Cartridge Box Shoulder Belt. The Cartridge Box has a tool pouch on the front to hold a cleaning kit and removable tins to hold and protect the black powder and paper cartridges used in the rifled muskets.
The Head & Boon Contract Set has the Allegheny Arsenal style Cap Box with the closing tab sewn on to the leather flap and then fastened over a brass finial to keep the Cap Box closed. The Cap Box is lined with 100% natural lambs wool to help keep the percussion caps inside. Each box also has a standard issue cone pick inside which was used for removing debris stuck inside the percussion nipple on the gun.
