Robert Tillson - Quincy, Illinois

The Robert Tillson Pattern 1861 .58 caliber Rifled Musket Accoutrements Set consist of a Cartridge Box, Cap Box, Shoulder Belt, Waist Belt, Bayonet Scabbard, Box Plate, Waist Belt Plate and an Eagle Shoulder Belt Plate.

The Cartridge Boxes made by Robert Tillson were wartime contract boxes with riveted waist belt loops. It was also designed to be used with a Cartridge Box Shoulder Belt. The Cartridge Box has a tool pouch on the front to hold a cleaning kit and removable tins to hold and protect the black powder and paper cartridges used in the rifled muskets.

The Robert Tillson Contract Set has the Allegheny Arsenal style Cap Box with the closing tab sewn on to the leather flap and then fastened over a brass finial to keep the Cap Box closed. The Cap Box is lined with 100% natural lambs wool to help keep the percussion caps inside. Each box also has a standard issue cone pick inside which was used for removing debris stuck inside the percussion nipple on the gun.
